When I was approaching Foyles for the first time on that cold, rainy evening in late October, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The bookstore is the sheer size of a space ship with its multiple levels of books, and even a cafe on the top level. Foyles is Disney World for book lovers! The giant bookshop carries a spectacular selection of hot-off-the-press books, from perennial classics to staff favorites and hidden gems, as well as a huge selection of gifts and stationery sure to please the most discerning book lovers.
Foyles opened in 1903 when two brothers William and Gilbert Foyle, having failed their civil service exams, started selling off their old textbooks. Blink and it has been 115+ years of family-owned independent bookselling and Foyles is now a world-famous, legendary bookshop brand.
The Foyles bookshop I visited was the flagship store on Charing Cross Road (opened in 2014). Modern, warmly lit, and extremely spacious, Foyles Charing Cross is ready to host book lovers worldwide. I was thrilled to be able to visit and document the bookshop this fall for the Book Lovers Series. Hours upon hours of filming and browsing the bookshop left me with wonderful memories of a truly magical evening in London.
