That Famous Notting Hill Bookshop in London

Ever since I watched Notting Hill in the theater in 1999, one of my dreams is to visit William Thacker’s (portrayed by the perennially charming Hugh Grant) Notting Hill Bookshop . I bet though that I’m not alone in this endeavor.

This past fall, I finally had a chance to visit London for an extended stay and filmed a few lovely bookstores in London for the Book Lovers Series. One of those beautiful bookshops is … (no surprise) … the Notting Hill Bookshop!

The Notting Hill Bookshop

Even though it is the namesake bookstore from the movie, it’s not at the exact location where Notting Hill was filmed. The movie was shot at another storefront, just a few blocks down the street. That fact, however, doesn’t make much difference to tourists and book lovers alike. We all come to the Notting Hill Bookshop to relive the romance between William and Anna Scott.

Situated in the heart of Notting Hill and not far from the famous & bustling Portobello Market, the Notting Hill Bookshop opened in 1979 and originally specialized in travel books only. Since 2011, the bookstore has been carrying books from other genres as well, along with its extensive travel section.

In 1999, Notting Hill Bookshop became famous after its interior had been duplicated to star in the Notting Hill film, alongside Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. Ever since then, the bookstore has received much love and attention from visitors from all over the world, including yours truly.
